Anihan Graduate is Head Decorator at Cupcakes by Sonja

Sarah Jane gave a testimonial during Anihan's 2013 Graduation on how Anihan helped her start her career in the food industry. Sarah graduated in 2008 and was one of the recipients of the Academic Excellence award in her batch. She is now the Head Decorator at the highly popular Cupcakes by Sonja.

Below are excerpts from Sarah's speech addressed mainly to the new graduates and their parents:

...My life in Anihan gave me the strength to reach what I dreamed of and helped me discover my skills and talent in the cake decorating field.

I did my OJT in the Maligaya (Training Center) and also in the Makiling Conference Center. After working in the Conference Center, I got employed at Cupcakes by Sonja – that has been from 2009 to the present. At first, I worked there as a cake decorator. The most exciting part of cake decorating is making the final touches to the tiered cakes, where I have to apply all my creativity. The basic skills I learned in Anihan helped me learn fast and learn more.

After a year I was promoted as Assistant Head Decorator and later on as the Head Decorator... In the almost 4 years that I’ve now been working in the cake decorating industry, I learned to work with different people... From Anihan I also learned the moral values proper to Christian women.

With the work I have now, I’m happy and thankful for all the things I learned from Anihan. And I also save for my future.

This is a great opportunity to thank all the persons behind us, for making our dreams come true: the teachers, mentors, and staff of Anihan. I thank them for instilling in us the basic values we need along our way, for guiding us towards the right path always. We are also forever grateful to our beloved patrons and sponsors who generously help support our education. May God bless you and return your generosity a hundredfold! And of course, I also thank God for Anihan, an important institution that is a part of our lives.

For you, fresh graduates, your parents and teachers are looking at you now, proud of what you’ve reached and looking forward to see you working in your own chosen field.

...This is not the end of your journey but rather the start of your opportunity for a career in the food industry.

Remember, no matter how hard the trials that may come your way, I know you can face it and be successful in life, because we – you and I – are products of the Anihan education.
